Leading stars in Colombia's new cumbia movement.
Frente Cumbiero is one of the bands at the forefront of Colombia's new cumbia generation. Through an already long and successful career, they have explored the genre's sonic identity and expanded its footprint in Latin America and beyond. The combination of infectious rhythms, hooks that stick to the brain cortex, and a captivating sound palette has led to their being embraced by dedicated audiences in search of musical adventures and steaming dance floors.
The band is led by Colombian songwriter and producer Mario Galeano Toro, who is also one of the founders of other important projects such as Ondatrópica and Los Pirañas. Throughout their career, Frente Cumbiero has collaborated with a long list of legendary musicians, including Mad Professor, Kronos Quartet, Orquesta La Delio Valdez, and Minyo Crusaders. The diverse roster should provide some hints about the band's eclectic, wide-ranging view of music. They have toured the world and performed to enthusiastic reviews at New York's MoMA, Festival Estéreo Picnic, Roskilde Festival, Womad, Womadelaide, Womex, Sónar, and Fuji Rock.
As a live band, Frente Cumbiero performs in a quartet format, delivering powerful tropical experiences on the dance floor with two brass instruments, live percussion, and electronic sounds. Their latest release, Inconcreto & Asociados, came out in 2025 and demonstrates a band at the peak of its strength, while on the EP Minyo Cumbiero: From Tokyo To Bogota from 2020, they experiment together with the band that invented Japanese cumbia, Oslo World friends Minyo Crusaders. This fall, Oslo World is hosting a concert that is guaranteed to be a highlight within the cumbia genre in Norway so far.
