He has a youthful energy, but in fact, Marius Neset's career has spanned more than 20 years now. When he was 20, he toured the world with JazzKamikaze – in Europe, the USA, Asia, and North Africa. Then he formed a band under his own name before he received commissions to write large orchestral works for the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Bergen Big Band, DR Big Band, Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, KORK, and three works for the London Sinfonieta. For this, he has received both nominations and awards for his fantastic music. He is the only musician residing in Europe who made it onto Downbeat's list of "25 for the future, that will shape the future of jazz in the years to come".
Neset's music is playfully intricate with heavy breaks and time changes, heartwarming, melodically beautiful, technically dizzying, and masterfully executed. The saxophone magician from Os has created most of his career outside Norway’s borders, including this band which features musicians from England and Sweden. Several of them have been involved in shaping Neset’s musicality almost from the start. Magnus Hjorth and Anton Eger have played with Marius since they met at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen in 2003. Elliot Galvin and Conor Chaplin are handpicked for their personality, creativity, and musical surplus to be free in the compositions. Together, they made the albums Happy and Cabaret, both released on ACT, from which much of the concert's playlist will be drawn.
You can look forward to a brilliant evening of virtuosic and beautiful music, and an insight into what it takes to impress in the great abroad.
