Warm ballads of great presence and shifting colors Friday, October 9th at 20:00. Doors open at 19:00 - kr 360/310/260
We have had many fantastic experiences with Melissa Aldana and her band. Her concerts have been incredibly swinging; fresh and playful classical jazz with modern edges and incredible technique. At this concert, her fifth visit to the Jazz scene, she will present the music from the new album Filin, the warmest ballad record we have heard in a long, long time!
With the sound of John Coltrane's classic LP Ballads from 1963 as her guiding star, Aldana has gathered or rewritten beautiful low-tempo music. The way the overtones of the tenor saxophone comfort a sore melody is masterful, Aldana's sonic presence moves through the space and fills it with shifting colors.
The music is written by South American composers: Salvador Levi, Cesar Portillo de la Luz, Marta Valdez, samba innovator Cartola, and not least Hermeto Pascoal, his Little Church here a lovely tribute to the genius's life's work.
Melissa Aldana has made an album powerful enough to become a classic - closeness and warmth that you just want more of. We are greatly looking forward to this live performance!
