How can I purchase the Oslo Pass?

You can purchase the Oslo Pass directly in the Oslo Pass – Official City Card app.

What payment methods can I use?

We accept VISA, MasterCard, Maestro, Google Pay and Apple Pay.

Do students get a discount?

Yes. Students under 30 receive a 20% discount with a valid student ID with photo or a valid ISIC card (not an ISIC bank card).  

The student discount can only be purchased at Oslo Visitor Centre (Oslo Central Station) where you will receive an Oslo Pass code to redeem in the app.

I can see a transaction in my bank statement, but no pass is appearing in the app. What should I do?

If the payment appears in your bank statement but no pass is visible under “My passes”, the order has most likely not gone through properly.  

The amount is only reserved and will be released automatically. A successful order will generate an email confirmation, and the pass will appear under “My passes”.

I bought my Oslo Pass some time ago. Can I still use it?

Physical pass: Old physical passes (purchased before 2026) can be used throughout 2026, only if the date and time have not been written on the pass beforehand. 

Digital pass: A digital Oslo Pass is valid for one year before activation.

Can I pay by cash?

Yes, you can pay cash for an Oslo Pass redemption code at Oslo Visitor Centre.

Do school classes get any discounts?

Yes, a 20% school group discount is available pre-orders only. 

The school group discount only applies for groups from elementary to secondary school (6 to 17 years old). School groups get a 20 % discount on the order. This includes both students and the accompanying adult(s). To order please send an e-mail to oslopass@visitoslo.com.

Activation and validity

How do I activate my pass?

Go to “My passes” on the front page of the app. Tap your pass marked Ready for activation and swipe to activate it. 

How long is my pass valid for?

Your pass is valid for one year before activation. Once activated, the time (24, 48, or 72 hours) starts to count down.

What does it mean to activate my pass?

Activation starts your passes duration. You can purchase or redeem your pass in advance, then activate it when you’re ready to start exploring.

Does my pass have an expiration date?

Yes. Your pass must be activated within one year of purchase. 
If you received your pass through a tour operator or Oslo Visitor Centre the pass is still valid for one year from the date you redeemed it in the app.

Transport

How do I use the Oslo Pass on public transport?

Your pass includes unlimited travel on public transport within zones 1, 2,3,4V and 4N (including the airport route with the local train VY). You do not need to scan your pass when boarding; only show it if there’s a ticket inspection.

Is transport to and from Oslo Airport Gardemoen included?

Yes, transport to and from Oslo Airport Gardemoen is included with the local trains operated by VY. Travel is only valid with an active Oslo Pass.

Does my pass need to be valid throughout the entire journey?

Your Oslo Pass only needs to be valid upon boarding.

Do I need to scan, tap or present my card before boarding public transport?

No. Simply make sure that your pass is active. However, please show your valid Oslo Pass on buses with a front door entrance.  

You must show your card to a ticket inspector, upon request.

How do I use the Oslo Pass at museums and attractions?

Show your active pass at the entrance and the staff will scan it upon arrival.

How do I use the Oslo Pass at discounted offers (restaurants, tours, etc.)?

Show your valid Oslo Pass before ordering or paying to receive the discount.

What if I don’t have a smartphone?

If you don’t have a smartphone or need assistance, our staff at the Oslo Visitor Centre can help you. They can issue an Oslo Pass code for you. You can then access your pass from another device. For example, on a smart tablet or a travel companion's device.

"Purchase processing” – Purchase

If your Oslo Pass is stuck processing, please try the following steps:

- Check that you have internet access. The purchase process can be disconnected and fail if you lose internet access. 

- Check to see if you have received the order confirmation email for a sucessful order.

- Check your bank balance or try another card; we accept VISA, MasterCard, Maestro, Google Pay and Apple Pay.

- Check if you have the latest version of the app and that your phone is fully updated.

- Close the app completely and open again

If none of these steps work, we encourage you to contact our support at oslopass@visitoslo.com or stop by Oslo Visitor Centre at the central station, Østbanehallen.

“Something went wrong” - Redemption

If you cannot redeem your Oslo Pass code, please try the following steps:

- Check that you have internet access.

- Check if you have written the code correctly. Sometimes, a 0 can look like an O, or an L can look like an I.

- Check if you have the latest version of the app and that your phone is fully updated.

- Close the app completely and open it again.

How do I transfer a pass?

To transfer a pass please follow these steps:

- Go to “My passes”

- Press “Transfer pass” and follow the instructions.

- Your companion(s) must go to “Menu” in their Oslo Pass app and press “Receive pass”.

- Then, a QR code will appear. Scan the QR code and confirm the transfer. 

If you are part of a smaller group and plan to stay together throughout your stay, it won’t be a problem to have multiple passes on one phone. 

If you want to transfer a pass to your travel companion, please note that a pass can only be transferred once before activation.

Can I have multiple passes on one phone?

Yes, you can have several passes on one phone. 

If you plan on staying together with your travel companions throughout the whole trip, it is no problem having all the passes on one phone. If you are planning on splitting up during your trip and have redeemed all your passes on one phone, you can transfer the passes to another smartphone before activation. Please note, that you can only transfer a pass once.

Can I use my pass offline?

Yes, but you need to be online before using the pass for the day, so that the daily public transport QR-code is updated. You also need internet or data when you redeem the pass and when you activate it.  

As soon as your pass is activated you can turn on flight mode and use the app offline. 

Attractions

How many attractions can I visit per day?

You can visit as many of the offers and attractions as you want in one day, but you can only visit each individual attraction once per calendar day. If you have a 48h or 72h pass you can visit the same attraction again the next day.

Can I skip the queue?

No, you must scan your Oslo Pass when entering the attraction and you do not get any fast-track benefits of any sort.

Do I need to pre-book at any attractions?

You do not need to pre-book at any of the attractions that offer free entry. Some of our discounted offers require pre-booking like some of the boat trips and sightseeing offers. Please see each offer in the Oslo Pass app for instructions on how to book the activity.

General questions

Why should I purchase the Oslo Pass?

The Oslo Pass gives you the full Oslo experience in one product. Enjoy unlimited public transport throughout the city (including to and from Oslo Airport Gardermoen) and free entry or discounts at more than 60 museums, attractions, and tours. It’s the easiest way to explore and unlock Oslo’s culture, food, and history.

I haven’t received an order confirmation. What do I do?

Please check your spam folder. If it’s not there, contact support through the app or email the address listed under “Help” in the app. 

I lost my phone. What happens to my pass?

If your phone is lost or stolen, you need to purchase a new Oslo Pass. We are not responsible for loss or theft.

I received a gift card or voucher code. How do I use it?

Open the Oslo Pass app and choose Redeem pass. Enter your gift card or voucher code and click on Redeem pass. You pass will then appear under “My Passes”.

I bought my pass from an online travel agent or a tour operator. How do I receive my pass?

You will receive a redemption code either from the tour operator directly or a voucher code from the OTA. Enter this code in the Oslo Pass app to access your digital pass.
