6 February is the Sámi people's national day. It marks the first Sámi Congress on 6 February 1917.
Even though the traditional Sámi territories (Sápmi) are further to the north of Norway (as well as Sweden, Finland and Russia), there are many Sámi people living in Oslo, who celebrate this day here in the capital.
On the national day, many Sámi people dress in the traditional "gákti" to celebrate, and to show their cultural identity.
