Fresh breeze from a brilliant quartet | Oslojazz 2026
The Røed Quartet is a modern jazz quartet with original music inspired by the golden age of the 60s. With the brother duo Aksel and Lyder Røed at the forefront and the Swedish star drummer Cornelia Nilsson behind the drums, the band delivers energetic and lively interplay, with Ola Høyer elegantly binding it all together with his ever-reliable double bass.
Aksel and Lyder have been heard in everything from Spidergawd and FIEH to Other Aspects and the Lyder Røed Quintet, while Høyer is known from, among others, Cortex and Telehiv. Nilsson has made her mark in recent years as one of Europe’s most sought-after drummers through her collaboration with Aaron Parks. She also played a stunning concert with her own trio at Herr Nilsen during Oslojazz in 2024.
After many years of musical crossroads and collaborations in various constellations, it felt natural to combine forces under one common name. The band was originally formed for the Tedansfestivalen in 2024, and in the wake of that, they recorded their debut album with Vetle Junker in Bergen. The album Red Nose Hymn was released on the label Sauajazz earlier this spring and is celebrated with a concert at Herr Nilsen during this year's Oslo Jazz Festival.
