Oslo as a Pilgrim City
In the Middle Ages, pilgrims came to Oslo to visit St. Hallvard’s Cathedral, where the relics of St. Hallvard were kept. Today, Oslo remains a pilgrimage destination for many, though it is perhaps most widely known as the starting point of the Gudbrandsdalen Route to Trondheim.
The Gudbrandsdalen Route begins in Minneparken in Gamlebyen. After just a couple of hundred metres, the path splits at Galgeberg in the Old Town. From there, you can either take the 'East Route' through Romerike, or the 'West Route' through Ringerike. The two routes meet again in Lillehammer.
