Old and new come together at Bærums Verk, an historic attraction and shopping commons west of Oslo where you'll find over 40 stores, galleries and exquisite eateries.
The village of Bærums Verk was founded 400 years ago to boost the Dano-Norwegian iron production. It has remained a hub for traditional crafts, and you'll still find the workshops of blacksmiths, glass blowers and woodworkers along the main street. This is a great place to purchase hand-made products of all kinds, including quilts, glass and furniture. You'll also find modern stores and a shopping centre in the area.
Bærum's Verk beautiful surroundings include a scenic river and a popular park with 29 sculptures made by renowned Norwegian artists – a collection that grows every year. When it's time to eat, get a table at Norway's oldest restaurant Værtshuset Bærums Verk.
The shopping centre is open Monday-Friday 10-20 and Saturday 10-18.
