The Silver Mines (Malmveien 11, 3614 Kongsberg)
Just 8 km from Kongsberg, in Saggrenda, you can take a train ride into The King’s mine, 342 meters underground, with guided tours available during the summer season. The area outside the mine is an idyllic spot featuring historical buildings, including the miner’s houses (Sakkerhus), which host exhibitions and a museum shop with unique finds. Enjoy mining-themed activities on the activity ground, where you can pan for silver, examine rocks, and mint your own coin. Witness a demonstration of firesetting, an old mining technique.
See the departure times for the silver mines and the museum’s opening hours on the Norwegian Mining Museum’s website.
Please note: The museum and the silver mines are located at two different sites.
