The Book Booths (Lesekiosk) are a national project aiming to spread litterature to the population. A hundred protected old phone booths country-wide have been filled with books in order to make litterature and good reading experiences easily accessible to people.
The Book Booths are a way to highlight litterature and to show that books are all around us, even though we live in digital times. They make it easy to share reading experiences with others. People are encouraged to leave books behind and find another to take home with them.
Each booth gets a patron, either a public library or other local organisations, book shops or enthusiastic individuals.
In 2019, the first Book Booth was officially opened at Solli Plass in Oslo. Since then, 18 more booths have opened around Oslo, and three more are scheduled to open in 2021.
