Ragnhild Hemsing VETRA

Musical Winter World

Folk music, improvisation, and newly composed jazz merge together as Ragnhild Hemsing VETRA returns to the Main Stage.

Bridge-builder Between Traditions

Ragnhild Hemsing is known for her unique ability to move naturally between musical worlds. As both a classically trained violinist and a deeply rooted folk musician, she creates an expression that feels both timeless and forward-looking.

Her artistic project Ragnhild Hemsing VETRA is a unique folk jazz band, navigating the borderland between tradition, improvisation, and newly composed music. Here, the raw melodic power of folk music unites with the open and exploratory expression of jazz.

Norwegian Winter in New Tones

VETRA builds upon Hemsing's album of the same name, focusing on Norwegian folk music and nature – with a particular anchoring in Valdres. The name comes from the Valdres dialect and means winter or season, highlighting the project's clear connection to nature and the cycle of time.

Together with some of Norway's most prominent jazz musicians – Mathias Eick, Steinar Raknes, and Terje Isungset – a rich and lyrical soundscape is created that invites the audience into a musical journey through sound, nature, and identity.
