The Royal Park is also a great place for a picnic, and if you are lucky, you might see the change of guards that happens every day at 1.30 pm?
Frognerborgen playground at the Vigeland Sculpture Park
On this playground you will find a large climbing frame that looks like a castle! The children love it, and we can assure you that you need to plan your pit stop here to be a long one … This playground suits all ages, with its own area for the toddlers. In addition to the castle, you will find swings, a large sandbox, and other climbing frames.
You can plan for a full day here with a visit to the Vigeland Sculpture Park – a large park with more than 200 sculptures. Fun fact: children are allowed to climb on the sculptures! Can you find the labyrinth? It should keep your children active for at least one hour searching for the 3-kilometer-long path. When you get hungry (or tired) you can either visit the café in the park or have a picnic in one of the large green areas.
Do your kids still want some action? The open-air pool Frognerbadet is next to the Vigeland Park and offers great and playful swimming opportunities.
Go play in natural surroundings
Rommensletta Sculpture Park
A short ride with the subway (T-banen) leads to Rommensletta Sculpture Park which boasts an activity park for juniors and adults, as well as a playground shaped like a snail (as seen from above). The park also offers picnic areas and a great view.
Østensjøvannet lake
The playground next to Østensjøvannet has natural-looking climbing frames with an obstacle course, a slide, and swings. There are benches for you to sit and enjoy your lunch, and a few metres away you can watch the birds that live in and near the lake. Suitable for children at all ages.
If you have older children, you can take a walk around the lake (approximately 4,5 km). The trail is quite easy for children who like to walk.
