A day in Bjørvika

Breakfast (08:00-10:00)

We’ll start off the day at Oslo Central Station. If you haven’t had breakfast already, it will be a natural first step on your itinerary. Bella Bambina in Østbanehallen offers a varied breakfast buffet with a selection of organic food, eggs, bacon, freshly baked bread and fruit. Excellent if you love a hotel breakfast!

Åpent Bakeri is not only a great place for your morning coffee and a fresh pastry. They also offer a separate breakfast menu with tasty dishes made from organic and locally sourced ingredients.

Oslo's modern architectural gems: The Deichman Library and The Opera (10:00-11:00)

Deichman Bjørvika, Oslo’s main public library, opened its doors in 2020. This modern library is open to all, and hosts a wide range of activities, in addition to more than a million books. Take the escalators up the five floors, and explore the library’s nooks and crannies, games, sewing machines, musical instruments, 3D-printer and much more!

Right across the road, the Opera lies on the water’s edge. The white marble building is one of Oslo’s greatest attractions. And yes, you are encouraged to walk on the roof! From there, you’ll get a fantastic view of the fjord and the art piece She Lies, an iceberg-like sculpture made from glass and steel by Monica Bonvicini.  

MUNCH (11:00-14:00)

From the Opera, the next stop is not far away: MUNCH. On your way there you will pass Operastranda, a beach in the middle of the city which is popular among the locals during the summer. Why not go for a swim?

At the MUNCH museum you can wander through several floors of art. Both permanent exhibitions with Edvard Munch’s art, as well as temporary exhibitions where other artists are exhibited side by side with the protagonist.

Munch’s most famous work The Scream (Skrik), is to be found in “Munch uendelig” – the exhibition on the 6th floor. The museum holds three versions of the painting but are only showing one at a time, changing once an hour. If you wish to see each version, make sure to visit this floor several times during your visit.

Lunch (14:00-15:00)

After a few hours in one of the world’s largest museums dedicated to a single artist, our guess is that stomachs are getting quite empty.

In Bispevika, right outside the museum, you’ll find a wide variety of lunch places. How does a steaming bowl of hot ramen at Koie, a vegetarian brunch at Kumi, or a brightly colored donut from Talormade sound?

Shopping in Oslobukta and sauna at Sukkerbiten (15:00-18:00)

Among the shops in Oslobukta, there are several flagship-stores for Norwegian design and brands that focus on a more sustainable fashion industry. Check out Devold Brandstore to find high-quality wool sweaters and undergarments. You will find seasonless garments designed to stay in your wardrobe for many years at Envelope 1976. If you've always wanted a coat which both looks good and keeps the rain out, you will find it at Norwegian Rain.

Another popular activity by the fjord is sitting in a steaming hot floating sauna. Oslo Badstuforening is located at Sukkerbiten, and boasts seven unique saunas. NB! If you want to be guaranteed a place in one of the saunas, we advise you to book a session in advance.

Dinner at Sørenga (18:00-21:00)

By now you are probably beginning to feel both hungry and tired. Lucky for you, you won't have to go far to find an excellent dinner!

By crossing the bridge over to Sørenga, you will find different restaurants with an amazing view of the fjord and Bjørvika. You can enjoy authentic Mexican food at Coyo or have delicious seafood at Seaport.

And a drink to round off the day (21:00- ...)
