Welcome to a atmospheric pre-Christmas concert where old Christmas traditions meet Nordic improvisation, folk tunes, and sacred sounds. To open their 30th anniversary, Trio Mediæval invites you to YULE – a musical landscape where medieval music, hymns, folk songs, and improvisation merge.
YULE draws inspiration from the old North European Christmas celebration, before the church's rituals took over. Here, the solemn Christian Christmas meets the older, earthy Yule tradition with singing around the fireplace, evergreens, feasting, and music. The result is a beautiful and distinctive encounter between the sacred and the worldly, where Trio Mediæval's characteristic vocal sound is accompanied by a fantastic group of musicians. Since its inception in 1997, Trio Mediæval has established itself as one of the world's leading vocal ensembles in early music and Nordic contemporary music. Through collaborations across genres, the trio has created its own expression, delighting audiences on stages such as Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, Concertgebouw, and Elbphilharmonie. The concert at Riksscenen will also be a special occasion: founder Linn Andrea Fuglseth will be on her last tour with the trio before passing the baton after the New Year.
