The saxophonist Soran Lind highlights the saxophone's golden age on Stage 2 – the period when the instrument made its significant breakthrough in art music.
Norwegian saxophone star in the making
The young Norwegian saxophonist Soran Lind is a new name to watch on the international classical music scene. On Stage 2, he takes the audience back to the saxophone's golden age – the period when the instrument truly found its place in classical music. Accompanying him on piano is Eirik Haug Stømner.
Highlighting the classical saxophone
It would take a long time before the classical saxophone had its own repertoire in art music. The instrument was invented by Adolphe Sax in the 1840s, but it wasn't until the interwar period that it truly broke through.
– The saxophone is actually a bit looked down upon in the industry, especially in Norway. It is one of the few instruments not included in symphony orchestras. This is partly because the instrument was not invented until the 1840s. Some composers were actually banned for including the saxophone in their works, Lind has previously told Ballade.
