The award-winning composer and cellist Hildur Guðnadóttir takes the stage at the Opera for a very special concert evening – together with musicians from the Opera Orchestra.
Guðnadóttir has established herself as one of the most innovative and influential composers of our time. With a unique ability to blend the intimate and organic with grand emotional power, she has created unforgettable music for film and TV – including the Oscar-winning score for Joker and the acclaimed series Chernobyl. Her expression seamlessly flows between classical, experimental, and cinematic sound art – always with the cello and human closeness at its core.
In 2026, Guðnadóttir will celebrate 20 years of artistic activity with the launch of a new symphonic program. The concert at the Opera is part of this celebration, featuring new orchestral arrangements of some of her most well-known works, entirely new compositions, and selected highlights from her film work.
The program includes music from the albums Without Sinking (Mount A), Mount A, Saman, Baer, Ascent, Erupting Light, and more – in addition to music from the film Joker. The evening will also feature two entirely new commissioned works.
Guðnadóttir herself plays the cello, in close collaboration with the Opera Orchestra. The concert experience is further enhanced by a holistic lighting design by Theresa Baumgartner. Robert Ames will conduct the concert.
In the iconic hall of the Opera, the audience is invited to a moody and deeply moving live experience. It will be an evening marked by intensity, vulnerability, and power – where soundscapes are built layer by layer, taking the audience on a journey through darkness and light.
This is a rare opportunity to experience one of contemporary music’s most recognized composers in one of the Nordics’ most spectacular concert halls!
